Joan Guzman retains title by decision

PRESS RELEASE: Before a wild, sold-out crowd atThe Dodge Arena in Hidalgo, Texas, WBO super bantamweight titlist Joan
Guzman defeated Fernando Beltran Jr. and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., son of the Mexican boxing legend continued his rise to stardom.


Guzman won a decision from the tough Mexican challenger Beltran and improved his sterling record to twenty three wins with no losses and seventeen knockouts.  Ringside judges scored the fight  117-111, 116-112, and 115-113 for the fighting pride of
Guchupita, Santo Domingo, Republica Dominicana.

Chavez Junior scored a knockout victory against Travis Hartman. Having tasted the mat in the second round and receiving and offensive onslaught from Chavez in the third, Hartman's corner threw in the towel.

In other bouts, lightweight Silvero Ortiz took a decision to upset favorite Ricardo Dominguez; Albert Rodriguez was victorious over Edgar Pedraza via decision, and Jose Luis Gonzalez knocked out Wayne Fletcher at the 2:08 mark of round four.

The evening's action was presented by Sycuan Ringside Promotions inconjunction with Mexican promotional firm Zanfer.  The gross ticket sales for the event totaled $238,707. Boxing aficionados can expectmore excellent boxing action from Sycuan Ringside Promotions in the months to come. Sycuan Ringside promotes not only Guzman, but has the exclusive rights to lightweight contender Julio Diaz, IBF junior featherweight champion Israel Vasquez, welterweight Antonio Diaz, and cruiserweight/heavyweight Orlin Norris.
