WBO Super Bantamweight Champion Joan Guzman recently has hired Jose Nunez as his new advisor. Guzman and Nunez have been very well acquainted since Guzman's arrival to the United States. Nunez is already working closely with Scott Woodward and Michael Marley from Sycuan Promotions in an attempt to get a Feb. 19 date for a unification of titles bout with current champion Oscar Larios. A victory against Larios could possibly even mean moving up in weight to fight the winner of Juan Manuel Marquez-Manny Pacquiao II at 126 pounds. Nunez is well aware of the tension between Rafael Guerrero (Guzman's manager) and many prominent figures in the world of boxing. However, he has confidence that through working closely with Guzman and his promoters they can overcome this and give the public the long awaited chance to see Guzman as a true world champion. 2005 will hopefully bring nothing but big fights for Joan Guzman.
