Jerusalem set for first title defense

WBC minimumweight champion Melvin Jerusalem will make the first defense of his title against Mexico's Luis “Flechita” Castillo, this coming Sunday, September 22nd at the Mandaluyong City Gymnasium in Jerusalem's home country, the Philippines. Jerusalem, 30 years old, has a record of 22 wins, three losses and 12 knockouts. He became the WBC 105-pound champion by defeating Japan's Yudai Shigeoka by decision. Castillo, 27 years old, is an undefeated fighter with 21 wins as a professional plus one draw and 13 knockouts. 
 
The fighters came face to face for the first time at a press conference, before entering the ring.
 
“I know it will be a tough fight, but I know we will come out victorious. And I want to tell the champion to enjoy his days as world champion,” Castillo said.
 
Jerusalem commented: “He is having fun here in the Philippines, I appreciate that he came here. We will see in the fight what happens.”
