Javier Mora Looks to Take Control of Oquendo

"I’m going to win every round, and once I see that he’s tired I’m going for the knockout."

BoxingTalk:  Javier, how is preparation for Fres Oquendo going for you?

Javier Mora:  It’s going good dude.  I’m working hard with Joe Goossen.  We got good chemistry, and I have had the best camp in my career so far.

BoxingTalk:  Do you feel this fight with Oquendo will be a tougher opponent than Kirk Johnson?

Javier Mora:  It will not be tougher because I feel that Johnson has more skills than Oqeundo, but it will be tougher in that Oquendo is so unorthodox and awkward.  I have.a lot less pressure in this fight, because Kirk had mass skills.

BoxingTalk:  Are you telling me that you feel Oquendo’s skills are less than Johnson’s?

Javier Mora:  Very much.  Oquendo is fast, and he’s awkward, but he doesn’t want to mix it up.  Johnson knew how to punish his opponent and mix it up.

BoxingTalk:  Looking back at your last fight with Johnson, do you feel that you would have gone on to win the fight if Johnson had not dislocated his knee?

Javier Mora:  Definitely man.  I was there, and I knew if I had landed a good punch it would have been over.  I felt strong and I was too strong for Johnson.  I caught Johnson in the first round, and I knew he was going to go down.

BoxingTalk:  What will you do on May 25th to ensure yourself a victory against Oquendo?

Javier Mora:  I’m going to take control.  Oquendo sees me as a one dimension fighter.  I’m an athlete, and I can be quick too.  I’m not going to let points slip away.  I’m going to win every round, and once I see that he’s tired I’m going for the knockout.  When he’s tired I’ll be all over his ass.

BoxingTalk:  When I spoke with Oquendo recently, he said that he is not taking you lightly, but that winning this fight will get him closer to a championship title.  Do you feel the same way?

Javier Mora:  My main goal is to win, and by beating these names like Johnson and Oquendo, I’m going to make a name for myself.  I’m so young.  May 25th is my birthday and I’ll be 25.  I have no rush.  Oquendo is 33 and he wants to get there again.  He’s already had two shots.

BoxingTalk:  I know that you have worked with James Toney.  What has he told you coming into this fight with Oquendo?

Javier Mora: He told me I’m going to knock him out.  James is always looking out for me, and he has a lot of faith in me.  James comes in the gym to make sure I’m doing what I’m supposed to be doing.  I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for James.

BoxingTalk:  What is your prediction for this fight?

Javier Mora:  I’m going to win by unanimous decision or by late knockout.  I’m going to get this kid, and I’m going to get the “W.”
