Breadman, Whats good my dude, you sent me the invite to write in to your blog and now I have accepted. You have made me now an avid listener and reader of your material. Ever since our discussion on the GYGB radio show, I have gain new respect for you and the GYGB boys simply because we had a great conversation about boxing in a informative way, in which facts, reason, and common sense got to be heard by all of those who listen to the show. Because usually when people have a discussion about a lightening rod subject like the career of Floyd Mayweather Jr; One person’s ignorance is usually always as good as someone else’s knowledge. Meaning if I can shout over you, and plead ignorant to your facts and knowledge then your facts and knowledge becomes just as good as my ignorance and more so irrelevant. Half Truths. Today I want to present to you an argument that is based around a BIG problem we have in boxing today. This is the telling of Half Truths. Like the old saying goes, “It is twice as hard to crush a half-truth as a whole lie”
This is why fighters like Floyd Mayweather Jr, and Roy Jones will never get the credit that they deserve. It has become every so apparent to me that the lines have been draw in the sand when it comes to Floyd Mayweather Jr. We have 1 side standing on each of the line in the sand and they argue; Floyd Mayweather Jr is a coward and he has strategically ducked opponents like Margarito, Cotto, Williams, Tszyu, Stevie Johnson, Paul Spadafora, Joel Casamayor, Acelino Freitas, and forgive me forgetting to add every other boxer name to that list. Or he has been willing to fight any of these fighters but the price, time, or situation with the people involved wasn’t right.
Somewhere in the middle of these 2 sides is the truth. But for now all we have are conspiracy theories based on half truths. Which is damn near impossible to dispute. Because the problem with conspiracy theories when they are based on half truths, are they are half true. So when we have people arguing a point of view based on a conspiracy theory, which is ultimately based on a half truth. What we have are people mixing their own person opinion, and bias with a little bit of fantasy and a little bit of facts. I am a firm believer that telling the half truth is damn near telling a whole lie.
When someone tells you something that is true, but leaves out important information that should be included, he can create a false impression.
Half-truths are not technically lies, but they are just as dishonest.
This is the problem Floyd Mayweather Jr faces with his critic’s. They used half truths to justify whole arguments. Furthermore, the arguments usually include a little bit exaggeration, fantasy, and half truths. When you combined all those things into one argument, article, or report. You now have a hell of an STORYLINE to dispute if everything they said could be somehow link to a fact. BREADMAN, you might ask well how did this happen to a fighter like Floyd Mayweather Jr
I would argue the lack of integrity by the anybody can write an article boxing media. Fueled by the contempt that alot of these writers in the media had and have for the Mayweathers. As a result to this day we have ignorant boxing fans repeating lies they heard and read their favorite writer write on their bias websites. Thus creating atmosphere of unwarranted hate, based on in large part jealousy and half truths. Jealousy of one man's success compared to their own, or compared to their favorite fighters. So the response alot of these writers take and took was destroying the or withholding all of the facts in order to affect the reality.
As a result, by in large they succeeded. They flooded the market with the same lines over and over again without any reguard for facts, because their purpose was to destroy one fighter’s reputation and legacy while hoping to enhance and build another fighters name.
IMO, Looking how history played out I believe the full truth about Mayweather will come out some day, but until then we live in this era of boxing of half truths, and therefore we will suffer to really to appreciate the fighters we have today. I hope to get a reply soon, HORUS
Bread’s Response: After our discussion on guard your grill I told you that I had so much respect for your willingness to stand on your rock as far as your opinion. After reading this I have even more respect for you, because you took the time to write a wonderful piece just to get your point across. You are a man of true PRINCIPLE. Your piece was so good I am not even going to put it in a mailbag with other comments. It deserves to stand alone. Half Truths in general are prevalent in all aspects of life. Most people speak Half Truths when they are trying to sway opinions. But just because EVERYBODY does it, does mean it’s right, it just means that everybody does it. That will not be an excuse from me. You ask me for a reply so I will attempt to satisfy your request with the WHOLE TRUTH. As for these Half Truths being put out about Floyd , I personally try to operate with impeccable INTEGRITY. If you read my stuff on Floyd I try not to use the term “duck” I use “miss“. I am no fool I know that the business of boxing does not allow a fighter to fight EVERY viable opponent. Again I am no fool and I understand when a fighter misses too many fighters then it can’t ALL be blamed on business and bad timing. I also NEVER use the term coward to describe Floyd. Or any other fighter. Just to enter a ring and willingly get punched in your face on a recreational level ,takes courage. Unfortunately fighters get held to a higher standard and they receive harsh criticism when they don’t deserve it. Many writers abuse their power and put out a bunch of half truths just to cater to the public appeal, I am not of that cloth. I have a saying the truth only comes one way. I try to write the truth to the best of my ability. I have been criticized by Floyd’s fans because I challenge the Half Truths that get put out to make Floyd look better or to discredit Floyd’s opponents. For example when Floyd said Marquez is not a tune up. He is the #2 p4p fighter in the world. I’m coming out of a two year retirement jumping right in HOT Water. I felt as though that was a Half Truth. I felt like the whole truth was while Marquez may have been regarded by some as the #2 fighter in the world. I felt as though as a welterweight he would not be on the level. I feel like there are at least 5 welters who can beat Marquez and probably 3 junior welters who can beat him. If I am speaking the Half Truth then please correct me. So I regarded this fight as showcase /tune up fight for Floyd to get his feet wet. I believed Marquez was a older, safer, slower opponent who had taken loads of punishment and he would be a good barometer to see where Floyd was at after his layoff. So I ask you ,did you hold Floyd to the same standard that you hold the writer’s, media members etc to. The next Half Truth I addressed was the claim that hit the airwaves about Manny Pacquioa refusing a 25 million dollar drug test. Everytime I turned around someone was spewing this phrase. I simply asked and have stated in many mailbags. That’s not the Whole Truth. Someone should ask Floyd how come he cost himself 25 million dollars by asking Manny to do something he has NEVER asked anyone else to do. I felt like there was more to it then Manny just refusing a simple blood test. Floyd took the humanitarian angle with his stance and claimed he wanted to clean up boxing. So I stated , then how come Marquez didn’t have to take a blood test. Horus you answered that for me and said Floyd wants Manny to take blood test because he feels threatened. I agree.
That’s the reason. It has nothing to do with cleaning up boxing. If that was the case then I ask you how come the fighters on the undercard May 1st are not taking blood test. Floyd has the power to do these things. I believe the whole Truth should have been addressed. The last half Truth I addressed about Floyd was his retirement. Floyd claimed he retired because he was tired of boxing. I believe him. Boxing is very taxing. But it was the Half Truth because Floyd was attempting to do rematches with Hatton and Oscar and when he found out it was not the same money in the rematches that it was in the 1st fights, he retired. Correct me if I’m wrong but if you are tired you are tired. Not just for certain fighters. When Floyd attempted to make winnable fights and not conquer unfounded territory, that’s cherry picking. Am I right? So I simply stated he left money and some his legacy on the table by not fighting Cotto, Margarito , Williams and Mosley when he retired. We agree on Half Truths being an dishonest persuasion tactic. But if you look closely all I do present the Whole Truth when I see a Half Truth put out.
