Fights through cuts to regain title
Israel Vazquez TKO6 Rafael Marquez... In a bout that screams for a third meeting, Israel Vazquez regained the WBC 122-pound championship in stunning fashion, fighting through two bad cuts to stop Rafael marquez via sixth-round technical knockout. With his face a mask of blood, Vazquez floored Marquez with a textbook left hook to the jaw. Marquez, who hasn't lost since 1999, got up and continued to fight aggressively. Marquez was getting the worst of the non-stop exchange but was on his feet throwing punches when the referee stopped the bout, thus leaving the door open for Marquez to claim a premature stoppage. Neither man clinched or held in what has developed into the best inter-Mexican rivalry the sport has seen since the Barrera-Morales wars. The classy Vazquez will need some recovery time for his bad cuts, but he showed his willingness to give Vazquez a return bout by posing for pictures holding up three fingers.
