Ishe Smith Gunning to Make a Statement

"I'm a hungry fighter who is looking to improve to show that I’m one of the best."

BoxingTalk:  Ishe, I just got off the phone with Yaseen Malnik from the Seeno Group and he’s telling me that he’s working on a September date for your return to the ring.  What can you tell us about that?

Ishe Smith:  That’s the last I heard too, sometime in September or the middle of October.  However, I’m staying in shape and preparing for that fight now.

BoxingTalk:  With the experience you have had in the ring, do you want a tune-up bout for your next fight, or a top-ten contender?

Ishe Smith:  I just want to get back in there and make a statement.  I’m working my way back up the ranks.

BoxingTalk:  Will your next fight be at junior middleweight?

Ishe Smith:  Yeah.  That is where I feel I’m at my best.

BoxingTalk:  The last time we saw you in the ring was against Sechew Powell.  What do you feel you learned from that fight that will help you in your fight this September?

Ishe Smith:  Not to leave it in the judges’ hands.  I was dealing with a lot of things leading up to that fight that I didn’t talk about beforehand.  Now, I need to work hard in the ring and have no more controversy.

BoxingTalk:  When talking with Malnik, he said that you are truly one of the most talented fighters in the world, but have simply underachieved.  Do you agree?

Ishe Smith:  I wouldn’t say that.  I’ve always put my best foot forward.  I beat some great names in the sport of boxing and at times things happened that were out of my control and I couldn’t do anything about.  A couple of my losses have been controversial, but I know I could have done more with Powell.  As far as my other losses, I really can’t say that.

BoxingTalk:  What can we expect from Ishe Smith the next time we see you in the ring?

Ishe Smith:  I'm a hungry fighter who is looking to improve to show that I’m one of the best.
