Interview: Joe DeGuardia

GL: Can you give us some thoughts on last Friday's card at the Paradise Theater? "It was a fun night of boxing and the people enjoyed themselves. The place is just beautiful and we were obviously pleased with the result and we're looking to get back there on January 25 to do another one."

GL: Who could we expect to see featured on that card should it come to fruition?

Joe DeGuardia: "There's a couple of guys we're looking to put on there and a couple of fights we're looking make but I'd rather wait until they're all done to make an announcement."

GL: When will Tarver return to the ring?

JD: "We're looking at sometime in late Feburary."

GL: February 24?

JD: "That sounds about right to me."

GL: Against who?

JD: "We'll see."

GL: Where is he from?

JD: (laughs) "There will be announcement made later this week, but it's being worked out for Antonio to fight in February and I expect to have a deal in place shortly."

GL: Tarver has told me that if he had things his way he'd be making a tune-up before looking to making another big fight. Will his next opponent be considered a tune-up?

JD: "We're trying to promote this fight so we're not going to say it's a tune up. But the reality is that for Tarver to fight anybody they have to be at the HBO level. And it's certainly going to be an HBO level fighter."

GL: Is there any update on the Arnaoutis-Torres II push you've been making?

JD: "We're waiting to hear back from the powers that be at the WBO, but it's clear that he deserves a rematch."

GL: If for whatever reason the WBO doesn't order that rematch in what direction can we expect to see Arnaoutis head in?

JD: "He's already shown everyone that he's a very marketable and fun fighter to watch, being Greek doesn't hurt him either. But he's going to be looking to fight the best out there and you have to remember that he's only got 17 fights and he's still learning and developing as a fighter. Certainly HBO is still interested and he's the perfect kind of fighter for HBO and Showtime for that matter."

GL: Has there been any discussion of making Hopkins-Tarver II?

JD: "Not yet, but I saw Bernard say he's not ruling it out on Boxingtalk. We all know Antonio is the master of the rematch and that's the fight we want more than anything if it can be made, unfortunately Bernard also knows that Tarver is the master of the rematch so I'm not so sure he's ever going to fight Antonio again."
