Interview: Former UFC champion Tim Sylvia

Sylvia returning to action on October 20th

Boxingtalk briefly caught up with former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia at a Showtime event in Mississippi over the weekend. “The Maine-iac” gives us a quick update on his plans to come back from losing his title to Randy Couture back in March 2007.

BT – Tim I know you're getting swarmed by these fans, but can you give Boxingtalk a quick update on the status of your injury, and when we can see you back in there?

TS – The injury has healed up great, I am back to 100 percent, I have been training for about eight weeks now.

BT – When can the fans expect to see you back in there fighting?

TS – October 20th, at UFC 77 in Cincinnati, Ohio, I will be fighting Brandon Vera, in the co-main event.

BT – How much do you attribute your defeat to Randy Couture to being injured before that fight?

TS – Randy Couture is a fucking stud, plain and simple.  The guy kicked my ass, but I would like to fight him when I am healthy 100 percent, I have a good idea that things will be different.

BT – There's no doubt that Randy is a stud, but I am guessing that the injury had to have slowed you some, no?

TS – The injury slowed me down a lot, like sprawling and such, but look Randy deserved that win.

BT – Can we expect a rematch between you and Randy Couture?

TS – Yes, I called Randy a weeks ago and told him that I wanted a rematch.

BT – Thanks for joining Boxingtalk, Tim.

TS – No problem, glad to be here.
