Interview: Buddy McGirt

BT: Boxingtalk.com here with one of the premiere trainers in the sport,. He was also a great fighter in his own time, Buddy congratulations on your win this evening. Would you like to respond to Arturo Gatti's comments from his recent interview? "To be honest with you, I didn't see it, I don't want to see it. All I know is that the next day he clarified some things that he said in another interview. I'm just going to leave it at that. I love him and I wish him nothing but the best."

BT: So you think it was a heat of the moment kind of thing?

BM: I think so. I don't know what was said, but a lot of people called me on it. I know Arturo, I love the guy. No matter what, I will always love him, and I wish him nothing but the best and success.

BT: What's the latest with your son?

BM: It's going great, I can't complain. We're still taking baby steps. We're looking to stay busy through the end of the year, and next year, do something major.

BT: Is there any truth to the rumor that he's going to be a contestant on The Contender?

BM: No, that's not true. No.

BT: Do you think super middleweight is the best weight for your son? I believe he started as a junior middleweight.

BM: His first fight was at super middleweight, then he went down to middle. I'm going to keep him at super middle weight.

BT: Is there anything else going on with Buddy? Any fighters that I haven't mentioned?

BM: I've got Lamon Brewster fighting Klitschko on July 7th. We've got Vernon Forrest fighting Carlos Baldomir on July 28th, to keep him busy.

BT: How much does Vernon have left, and can he still be a player in this division?

BM: He's going to rule it. Believe me, Vernon has a lot left.
