India starts national boxing federation

Pro cards coming in 2007

With boxing on the decline in most of the world, at least one new country is expanding the sport. According to The Hindu, the nation of India has launched the Indian Professional Boxing Association (IPBA). "The newly formed IPBA is aiming to provide Indian boxers a prolonged career in the sport and also a chance to earn good money. We have tentatively scheduled our first event in January next year and hope to get a few well-known boxers," said Raj Kumar Sangwan, twice Asian gold medallist, and now the Secretary-General of the IPBA.  The IPBA is currently in the process of finalising Asian and world body affiliation. -Scott Shaffer
