Improving Contreras changes hospitals!

While the Mexican boxing community mourns the death of Martin Sanchez, there is at least some encouraging news in the Mexican media regarding a fellow Mexican boxer, Rubén Contreras. The Juarez native, who was seriously injured in a Mya 28 bout against Brian Viloria, was moved from the California Medical Center in Los Angeles to another medical center in Los Angeles, where he will continue receiving treatment. A report from journalist Ramiro Gonzalez suggests that doctors consider Contreras’ vital health signals to be improving. Contreras, 32, underwent brain surgery and was initially in a coma. His wife, Nancy Maldonado, and his father and sister, Rubén Contreras and Virginia Contreras, have remained at the boxer’s side. A foundation has been established for Contreras that will accept donations. Anyone interested in helping this boxer in distress can send a check to the California Medical Center in Los Angeles at 1401 S. Grand Avenue, Los Angeles, California 90015.
