Ibragimov helping the community

PRESS RELEASE: Growing up in Dagestan, Sultan Ibragimov knows about struggle and about not always having everything he wanted or needed as a child.  So when presented the opportunity to help some disadvantaged children from the Miami-Dade and Broward counties in Florida during the Jason Taylor Foundation’s annual “Cool Gear for the School Year” event on September 10, 2007, the WBO heavyweight champion jumped at the chance.

“I can relate to these children and what they are going through, so to able to help them to pick out their school clothes and to see them smile was a great thing for me,” said Ibragimov, who interrupted his training camp for his long awaited October 13th bout with Evander Holyfield to take part in the event.  “To me, this is the best part of being champion, to be with the people and to give back when I can.  I had a great time.”

The “Cool Gear for the School Year” event in Davie, Florida featured Ibragimov, Dolphins stars Jason Taylor, Joey Porter, Trent Green, Chris Chambers, 1996 Super Bowl MVP Desmond Howard, and many other celebrities, who treated sixty disadvantaged boys and girls from both Miami-Dade and Broward counties to a $300 shopping spree at Old Navy for school clothes.  Each child was paired with a celebrity who helped them pick out their clothes for the new school year.

The mission of the Jason Taylor Foundation, which was founded in July 2004 by Taylor and his wife Katina, is to support and create programs that facilitate the personal growth and empowerment of South Florida’s children in need by focusing on improved health care, education and quality of life.
