Ibragimov celebrates WBO title victory

Press Release: It was the culmination of a lifelong dream, and finally, Sultan Ibragimov has scored a unanimous decision over Shannon Briggs last Saturday night to win the WBO heavyweight title.  “I am proud to be a world champion, and while I will enjoy some time off to visit with my family back home, I will be back in the gym soon because now the truly hard work begins,” said Russia’s Ibragimov, who befuddled the much bigger Briggs at Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall. With the win, Ibragimov improved his unbeaten record to 21-0-1 with 17 KOs. “I would like to thank my entire team, from my promoters and manager to my trainer, Jeff Mayweather, for all their hard work and dedication and a special thanks to my dear friend Suleiman Kerimov for his continued support,” said Ibragimov.  As for the future, the 32-year old southpaw’s game plan is simple. “I will be a true world champion and fight whoever is put in front of me,” he said.  “My main goal is to unify the belts and be the only champion in the world.  I want the title to mean something to everybody again, and the only way we can do that is to fight each other and see who will be the last man standing.”
