Sanctioning body calls out website
IBO Chairman John Daddono simply stated that the people running Fightnews.com were acting like uneducated boxing fans when they refused to acknowledge IBO championship contests.
The following morning, Fightnews.com headlines read: "IBO Exec: Fight fans uneducated!"
In a follow up letter to Fightnews, Daddono stated that "Fightnews executives were acting like grammar school children. Do I really need to explain to them that there is a difference between educated fight fans and uneducated fight fans? If so, they are definitely in the wrong business" Daddono said.
Daddono was refering to Fightnews' lack of knowledge of the IBO and IBO Champions. Fightnews went on to say that few of the IBO Champions could even be considered a top ten fighter.
Daddono explained: "That is a major insult to these hard working fighters who have worked their whole lives to acheive their dream of becoming a World Champion and then to be slapped in the face after accomplishing their goal".
Daddono responded b y referring to his organization's computerized ratings, which are designed to remove the corruption and bias plaguing the big four (WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO) "Fightnews, I believe you are confused. Which one of the IBO Champions would you not consider a top ten contender? Lennox Lewis (7 IBO title defenses) Carl Thompson (IBO Cruiserweight #6 by Top 100) Antonio Tarver (IBO Light Heavy) Robin Reid (Super Middle #3 by Top 100) Sergio Martinez (Jr. Middle #10 by Top 100) and the list goes on."
For his finale, Daddono presented an example of a fighter who is currently a world champion in another organization but is currently ranked number 33 by the IBO Top 100. "I am willing to clarify any confusion the executives at Fightnews may have in regards to the IBO, the IBO Champions and the integrity of any of the IBO Executives anytime, anywhere.
