The IBF has informed its lightweight champion, Jesus Chavez, and its interim titlist, Julio Diaz, that if their promoters cannot come to an agreement for a bout between the two, the IBF will conduct a purse bid on Thursday, October 26, 2006. Chavez won the championship against Leavander Johnson in September of 2005 and has not fought since then. Johnson passed away from injuries suffered during that contest. Julio Diaz, not to be confused with WBC interim lightweight titlist David Diaz or WBA lightweight champion Juan Diaz, captured the interim title in May by defeating Ricky Quiles. Chavez is promoted by Golden Boy, who could stage the fight on their November 25 date in McAllen, Texas, unless it loses a purse bid.
