IBF To Strip Julio Diaz If He Fights Castillo!

Last Friday evening Lou DiBella, promoter of Leavander Johnson, gave Boxingtalk.com the following quote regarding the then potential, Jose Luis Castillo-Julio Diaz lightweight unification bout, "I would hope Top Rank and Showtime do what they're supposed to do here and not disregard other people's contractual rights. But the people accountable here are Sycuan. The fact that they're trying to do this without picking up their phones to call me,  while my kid is in training and the fight is two weeks away is disgraceful." Last night DiBella informed Boxingtalk that he received a letter from the IBF stating it would strip Julio Diaz if he goes through with the now scheduled, Jose Luis Castillo fight on March. While DiBella applauded the IBF for (finally) following its rules, he concedes that the Jersey based sanctioning organization has little choice in this matter since they called off the Diaz-Johnson purse bid after receiving notification from DiBella Entertainment and Diaz's promoter Sycuan Ringside Promotions that a deal has been made. DiBella is strongly considering suing Sycuan and others for damages and breach of contract. "Johnson has been in training camp for the past two months to fight Julio Diaz on February 11. And if Julio Diaz tells you he hasn't been in camp training for Leavander Johnson, he'd be lying to you," said DiBella. "I have signed contracts and I have my fighter's rights WILL be protected."
