Press Release: Houston Mayor Bill White has declared Tuesday, August 15, 2006, as Juan Diaz Day in the city of Houston, Texas , it was announced today.  The undefeated WBA  lightweight  champion will receive a proclamation from the mayor of his hometown at City Hall Council Chambers, 901 Bagby St. at 2:00 PM. Diaz (30-0, 15 KO’s) has successfully defended his crown four times after capturing the WBA lightweight crown on July 17, 2004 when he dominated defending champion Lakva Sim to earn a unanimous decision victory.  In his last bout on July 15, 2006, Diaz battered Randy Suico to earn a ninth-round stoppage.  Diaz is entering his senior year at the University of Houston's downtown campus where he majors in political science.
