"X" still standing tall after all these years
Bernard Hopkins W12 Winky Wright... In Las Vegas, Bernard Hopkins continued to defy Father Time and work his way up the list of all-time greats by defeating Winky Wright over twelve rounds. The judges unanimously favored Hopkins with Glen Hamada scoring the fight 116-112 and Dave Moretti and Glenn Trowbridge both scoring it 117-111. Wright fought most of the bout with a bad cut caused by a clash of heads. Hopkins, 42 years old, retained general recognition as the world light heavyweight champion. The fight was contested at 170 pounds, five below the normal light heavyweight limit but ten above Wright's previous high weight. Afterwards, Wright mantained that the decision went to the wrong man. Wright's last loss was in 1999 to Fernando Vargas, and that decision continues to be disputed by boxing fans years later.
