Holyfield week on ESPN Classic

Holyfield week on ESPN Classic

In honor of Holyfield-Tyson II, which took place ten years ago tomorrow on June 28, 1997, ESPN Classic has anointed this week “Holyfield Week,” and has scheduled Holyfield classic bouts throughout the week. Holyfield won the rematch against Tyson when “Iron Mike” was disqualified for twice biting Holyfield’s ear.  Tyson had become so frustrated by being dominated for a second time by Holyfield, he reverted to those illegitimate motives and became DQ’d.  In their first bout (November 9, 1996), Holyfield was declared “Giant Killer” on the cover of Sports Illustrated when he stopped Tyson and won by TKO in round 11, shocking with world.

On Wednesday, June 27 at 8:00 p.m. ESPN Classic will show Holyfield’s May 20, 1995 bout against "Merciless" Ray Mercer; on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. will be Holyfield’s 1991 defense of the Undisputed - WBC/WBA/IBF - Heavyweight Title against George Foreman; and at  8 p.m. on Friday – Holyfield’s 1994 WBA/IBF Heavyweight Title Fight against Michael Moorer.  (All times EDT).

"The Road to the Heavyweight Championship!" is available LIVE on PAY-PER-VIEW Saturday, June 30th on Events IN DEMAND, DirecTV channel 123, and all cable pay-per-view services beginning at 9 pm EST/6 pm PST.
