Hitchins dominates Kambosos in career-best performance

Richardson Hitchins TKO8 George Kambosos... Tagging former world lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. with sharp output at will, Richardson Hitchins implored the challenger's corner to stop the fight during the eighth round. "If you love your son, you'll stop the fight," Hitchins told DAZN's Chris Mannix about the words he hurled. They did not listen, so the IBF junior welterweight champion took matters into his own hands, cranking a left hook to the body to crumple Kambosos in pain toward an eighth-round TKO victory at the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, and live worldwide on DAZN. Kambosos bravely beat the count but was in no shape to continiue. Hitchins (20-0, 8 KOs), who landed 205 punches to Kambosos' 57, worked behind the jab exceptionally well, using the stick to dictate his real estate in the ring.

During the fifth round, Hitchins hurt Kambosos to the body, sending the challenger reeling in noticeable pain. Hitchins did not immediately step on the gas with output during the sixth round but instead surgically set Kambosos up for what turned out to be an eighth-round stoppage in a dominant first title defense.

Though Teofimo Lopez entered the ring afterwards, Hitchins prioritized a fight with Devin Haney next, instead.

After Saturday's defeat against IBF junior welterweight champion Richardson Hitchins, former world lightweight champion George Kambosos stopped short of announcing his retirement, but his tweet clearly shows a man contemplating the end of his career. Kambosos wrote: "It’s a tough game but one game that I have always loved no matter what. I look at myself in the mirror and I know that I always believed in myself, took on the absolute best and always chased greatness. A great trophy cabinet, a hell of a resume, so much love and support from the fans worldwide and a loving family. Win, lose or draw I always stepped up, that’s all people can ask from in a fighter. Congrats Richardson it was your night, well deserved, respect and God bless your future career. Thanks to all the boxing fans for all the love and support. Just a warrior from Sydney [Australia] that chased it all. God bless." Kambosos' record stands at 22-4.

Hitchins responded: "You're a warrior and I wish you the best. Had fun promoting this event with you Champ."
