Hernandez celebrates upset of Litzau

Press Release: Jose Hernandez stunned the HBO Boxing After Dark audience by knocking out Jason Litzau at 2:52 of the eighth round Saturday night. Hernandez, 22-3 with 14 KOs had earlier dropped Litzau, 20-1 with 18 KOs in the opening stanza of their scheduled ten round featherweight bout before losing rounds 2-7 on the three official scorecards. However, Hernandez was able to stay in the fight with occasional power shots that kept "The American Boy" in a sticking and moving mode for most of the fight. Said a celebratory Hernandez after the fight, "He may have been winning the rounds after the first but I was able to handle his power and trade with him. He knew I was too strong for him and stuck to boxing to stay away from my overhand right which caught him in the first. In the 7th I realized he was slowing  down  and  my corner said to jump on him and try to catch him with the overhand right again. As soon as the bell rang I was able to find him and I was tagging him the whole round. The knockout at the end of the round was an accumulation of all the punches in that round with the overhand right being the final nail." Said Jose's trainer Sam Colona, "Jose came back to the corner after the 7th and said Litzau's punches didn't have as much snap on them and he might be tiring. We had a feeling that would happen so we told Jose to jump on him in the 8th. Our game plan was to win the fight in the later rounds." Said Hernandez about his future, "One more in the top ten and then I want to face one of the champions at 126. Just like they hyped this fight in the press, somebody was going to get KTFO'ed and that's exactly what happened." Hernandez is managed by Larry Christian and promoted by Dominic Pesoli's 8 Count Productions
