Henry Buchanan looks to electrify in Sycuan Main Event

October 12, 2007 (San Diego, CA) – One of boxings more colorful up-and-comers, Henry “Sugar Poo” Buchanan, will headline a five-bout fight card when he squares up against Ted Muller in a 10-round main event at the Sycuan Casino Showcase Theater in El Cajon.

Buchanan (14-1, 11 KO's) began his professional career in 2004 and is determined to return after a year-long absence from the ring. He’s looking to build on a steadfast career which has featured participation in the ShoBox Super Middleweight Eliminator Tournament, a boxing program featured on Showtime, as well as a recent stint on ESPN’s The Contender.  Buchanan carries 14 victories with his sole loss coming against former Olympian Jean-Paul Mendy, an impressive fighter with a 23-0 record.

Buchanan has only been in two fights since moving to the west coast and seeks to create a Southern California following. A huge supporter of his nephew, outside linebacker of the San Diego Chargers, Shawne Merriman, Buchanan looks to prove himself capable of boasting his own “Lights Out” tenacity in the ring.

“This is my chance to really get myself riled up and fired up and electrify everybody who comes out to see me, the same way that he (Merriman) does when he does the ‘Lights Out’ dance on the field,” Buchanan said.

It is now Merriman’s turn to be in Buchanan’s corner as he is expected to be present at both his uncle’s weigh-in and fight.

His opponent, Ted Muller (19-12-2, 9 KO’s) should prove to be a formidable opponent for Buchanan. Muller last saw action in July of this year when he lost against Librado Adande (26-1, 20 KO) at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Muller sees this fight as an opportunity to get back on track to the world ranking status of the Super Middle Weight division.

Both fighters in the main event will sport pink gloves in observation of October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Scheduled to fight on the Oct. 20 undercards are Angel Osuna (0-1) and Derrick Thomas (2-3), Tomas Barragan (7-1, 1 KO) and an opponent TBA, Heather Donahoe (5-1) and an opponent TBA, and Joseph Jones (1-1) and Yohan “the Beast” Banks in his Heavyeight pro debut. All bouts are subject to change.

The Showcase Theater at Sycuan Casino is located at 5469 Casino Way in El Cajon, CA. Tickets are priced at $50 general admission and are available at Sycuan Casino gift shop or online at www.sycuan.com.
Weigh-in for the fight will take place on October 19, beginning at 12:00 pm PDT at the Sycuan Resort, 3007 Dehesa Rd in El Cajon, CA and is open to the media.
