Heavyweight action in Maryland tomorrow night!

Ballroom Boxing returns to Michael’s Eight Avenue in Glen Burnie, Maryland this Thursday night, with promoters Scott and Michael Wagner’s first fight card of the year.  Tony “the Tiger” Thompson, fighting out of Silver Spring, Maryland, takes on Baltimore’s Brandon “the Beast” Cabell for the vacant Maryland State Heavyweight Championship, in the ten round main event.  Thompson (25-1, 15 KOs), a tall southpaw, has an impressive resume that includes victories over former world title challenger Vaughn Bean, Yanqui Diaz, and recent Jameel McCline conqueror Zuri Foreman.

Thompson holds one of the longest winning streaks in the heavyweight division at twenty-one straight wins, with twelve of those wins coming by knockout.

At 6’4’’ tall, Brandon Cabell (8-1-1, 2 KOs) gives up just one inch in height to Thompson, but far more than that in ring experience.  Cabell is coming off a third round knock out over Ronald Bellamy in August, and is riding a modest three fight win streak.

On the undercard, undefeated Philadelphia junior middleweight Derek Ennis (6-0, 4 KOs) takes on “Magnificent” Martinus Clay (10-10-1, 3 KOs), of Wilson, North Carolina in a six round bout.  In another six round junior middleweight bout, Jose Rodriguez (4-0, 1 KO) from New York City takes on James Shedrick (3-4, 2 KOs) of Philadelphia.

In a battle of two heavyweights making their pro debuts, Travis Kauffman, fighting out of Chicago, takes on Philadelphia’s Jerome Boyers in a scheduled four rounder.  Muhsin Corebrey (1-1-1) of Hilton Head, South Carolina takes on Anthony Abrams (1-3) of Philadelphia in a four round welterweight attraction.  In the opening bout of the evening, Featherweights James Franks (1-1, 1 KO) of Newport News, Virginia and Chicago’s Raul Rivera (0-1) collide in a four rounder.

Ballroom Boxing is promoted by Scott and Michael Wagner.  The matchmaker is Chris Middendorf.  Michael’s Eight Avenue is located at 7220 Grayburn Drive, Glen Burnie, Maryland 21061.  For tickets and information call (410) 547-SEAT, or on-line at www.ticketmaster.com
