Hamed freed from jail

One of the all-time great featherweights, Naseem Hamed, has been released from a British prison after serving just sixteen weeks of a fifteen month sentence for reckless driving.  According to the Associated Press, one of the victims broke "every major bone in his body". Upon his release, Hamed expressed sympathy for the accident victim. Hamed, who reigned supreme in the 126-pound category for much of the 1990s through 2001, when he lost to Marco Antonio Barrera. After that loss, Hamed fought once in 2002 and has been inactive since. --Scott Shaffer
