Legends, current stars and diehard fans of the “sweet science” gathered once again in Canastota, New York this past weekend to celebrate the 16th Annual International Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Weekend. The annual gathering included four days of events and activities, culminating Sunday with the induction of the Class of 2005. Events included ringside lectures, celebrity workout sessions, golf tournament, collector’s show, 5K run, ESPN2 Friday Night Fights at the nearby Turning Stone Casino, cocktail reception, banquet, and the Parade of Champions. Besides the thousands of boxing fans and enthusiasts and surprise appearances by actors Russell Crowe and Daniel Day Lewis, over fifty boxing greats of yesterday and today descended upon the village of Canastota in what has become a yearly pilgrimage. This year’s living inductees included featherweight and super featherweight champion Bobby Chacon (USA), junior welterweight champion Duilio Loi (Italy), featherweight champion Barry McGuigan (Ireland), junior middleweight champion Terry Norris (USA), matchmaker Don Fraser (USA), and writer Bert Randolph Sugar (USA). Following is a photo gallery of some of the weekend’s events.
