Hagler Makes Hall of Fame Weekend Marvelous!

Press Release:  Former undisputed middleweight champion and 1993 Hall of Fame Inductee Marvelous Marvin Hagler will attend festivities planned for the 16th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Weekend scheduled for June 9-12th in Canastota, NY.

"It’s very exciting to have Marvelous Marvin Hagler return to Canastota for the Hall of Fame Weekend," said Hall of Fame Executive Director Edward Brophy. "He's a legend and a fan favorite."

Hagler captured the world middleweight title in 1980 with a 3rd round TKO over Alan Minter. Over the next seven years, he successfully defended the crown 12 times with wins over Thomas Hearns, Roberto Duran, John Mugabi and Mustafa Hamsho. Hagler lost the title on a split decision to fellow Hall of Famer Sugar Ray Leonard in 1987. Now an actor based in Italy, Hagler was elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 1993.

The June 9-12th Hall of Fame Induction Weekend will feature over 20 exciting events including a banquet, parade, golf tournament, boxing autograph card show, breakfast, cocktail party, professional boxing show, and the official induction ceremony honoring the Class of 2005. New inductees to be honored are featherweight champion Bobby Chacon, junior welterweight champion Duilio Loi, featherweight champion Barry McGuigan, junior middleweight champion Terry Norris, matchmaker Don Fraser and writer Bert Sugar. Posthumous inductees will also be honored.

Over 50 boxing stars, including Ken Norton, Michael Carbajal, Angelo Dundee, Aaron Pryor, Jeff Fenech, Leon Spinks, Alexis Arguello and Canastota's Carmen Basilio and Billy Backus are scheduled to participate in weekend festivities.
