Habazin and Jonas to unify two welterweight titles

WBC welterweight champion Ivana Habazin will be matched against IBF champion Natasha Jonas in a unification showdown on Saturday, December 14th at the Exhibition Centre in Liverpool, England. Habazin hails from Croatia, and outpointed Kinga Magyar to capture the vacant WBC title in April. Now 35 years old, she has shared the ring with some of the best fighters of the modern era, including Cecilia Braekhus and Claressa Shields. Habazin (23-5), said: “It will be an honor for me to unify the WBC and IBF welterweight world titles. I have a lot of respect for Natasha. She has been a great champion throughout her career. She is one of the most outstanding fighters in the sport today and defeating her will give me the recognition that I have long deserved.”
For Jonas, this represents the opportunity to become a unified world champion in a second weight division, having previously won multiple belts at junior middleweight.
In January, Jonas (15-2-1), won a split decision against American Mikaela Mayer, a former unified champion, in Liverpool. She commented: “I am excited to be back with another great world title fight in my home, Liverpool. To have the opportunity to win another world title and unify the IBF and WBC world titles is going to be special. Ivana Habazin is a great champion. She has  fought some of the best in the world. I expect a tough fight, but I am ready to prove that I am number one in the division.”
