Guinn-Johnson off; Guinn blames Johnson

Press Release: The proposed February 16, 2007 ten-round heavyweight match-up between former heavyweight contenders Dominick Guinn, 27-4-1 with 18 KOs and Kirk Johnson, 36-2-1 with 26 KOs failed to materialize and has been scrapped due to what Team Guinn claims is a refusal to fight on Canadian Kirk Johnson’s part. “The date was set, the site had been named and all we needed was the fight, but Johnson punked out and didn’t want to fight so the fight wasn’t made,” explains Guinn, “he declined to sign the contract so it’s a no go, I’m sorry to the fans who wanted to see me back in action but I will continue training hard and hopefully soon somebody will call my name.” [Editor's note: of course there are two sides to every story.] Guinn is coming off a split decision victory over tough veteran Zack Page this past December in his home state of Arkansas while Kirk Johnson’s last bout in March against Javier Mora was changed from a TKO loss t to a No Contest by the California State Athletic due to Johnson dislocating his knee when his foot was stepped on by his opponent.
