Guerrero Makes It Even Uglier For Paco!

WBO President Faces More Heat!

Yesterday, Boxingtalk reported that WBO President Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel had been accused of raping a teenage in the Dominican Republic. Valcarcel immediately denied the charges and told Boxingtalk that the allegations against him had been fabricated.  In a story that is becoming more interesting every day, Puerto Rican newspaper, El Nuevo Dia is now reporting that Valcarcel has identified a man by the name of Rafael Guerrero who he says is behind the allegations.  El Nuevo Dia’s Carlos Rosa reports that Valcarcel said Guerrero made calls to certain Miami-based individuals in which Guerrero allegedly talked of setting up the WBO president. When contacted by Boxingtalk yesterday, Valcarcel hinted at Guerrero's involvement without actually mentioning his name.

The next question for boxing fans is who is Rafael Guerrero and does he have an axe to grind with Valcarcel?  As Boxingtalk readers may remember, Guerrero is the manager of WBO junior featherweight champion Joan Guzman.   The conflict between Guerrero and Valcarcel has been outlined on Boxingtalk throughout the year. Simply stated, Guerrero claims that Valcarcel has aimed to hurt the career of Guzman. According to Guerrero, Guzman was forced by Valcarcel to sign a promotional contract with Frank Warren in 2001. When Guzman signed a new promotional deal with Sycuan's Ringside Promotions in 2003, Guerrero believes Valcarcel tried to block Guzman from advancing his career.  However, Valcarcel has denied on several occasions that he has any desire to hurt the career of Guzman.

Guerrero believes the focus of this entire incident should remain on Valcarcel.  "I believe, as the intelligent lawyer that he is, Valcarcel is attempting to distract attention from the matter at hand,” said Guerrero in an exclusive talk with Valcarcel. “I am not going to get into a debate with him. His underhanded dealings with managers and boxers and more specifically with Joan Guzman and myself is not the issue at hand, even though I have clear proof of his wrongful actions towards Guzman.

"If I wanted to attack him on a personal level,” continued Guerrero, “I could have done this months ago. I have proof of him coming to the Dominican Republic with his girlfriend. Keep in mind, Valcarcel is a married man. I have several videos, from television in the Dominican Republic, of him with his girlfriend at public events. He has also written me WBO checks so I can pay for hotel rooms on my credit card. These hotel rooms were for him and his girlfriend.

"Valcarcel needs to respond to what he is being accused of, the rape of a girl in the Dominican Republic. He should not run my name through the mud.”  Keep hitting your referesh button because as you read this, Boxingtalk is working on an exclusive interview with the alleged victim’s lawyer.
