EDITED PRESS RELEASE: Will Grigsby of Minnesota won the third world-title of his off-again, on-again career by defeating Victor Burgos to capture the IBF 108-pound championship. The official scores were unanimous in Grigsby's favor, 116-112, 117-111 and 118-110. He held the IBF 108-pound title in 1998-1999 and won the WBO version of the title in 2000 but was stripped when he failed a drug test. Legal troubles, including jail time, limited him to just one fight in three years after that. Afterwards, Grigsby said, “This means more to me than I can explain. I felt a little rusty but I was still good enough to win. My legs are my specialty and it was hard with the rust. I will be even better next time. Burgos is a great champion. He was shorter than me and moved to the right, so he was hard to hit. I dedicate this fight to my mom, who died of multiple sclerosis 15 years ago.” Burgos, as is typical of a warrior who gets outboxed, was unhappy with the decision. “Grigsby did not come to fight. He came to run. He did not hurt me in the fight. I hit him real good. I had a real good chance in the fourth and sixth round. He was running all over the place. I feel they stole this fight from me. I don’t know if I am motivated to search for a title in my career now. If he wanted to run, why didn’t he go to a park?”
