Green machine returning at light heavyweight!

Australian Danny ‘The Green Machine’ Green will return to the boxing ring on September 20, 2006, but the former super middleweight contender will be moving up to the 175-pound class. in a rematch against Sydney boxer Jason DeLisle at Challenge Stadium, Perth. DeLisle, 18-5, has lost to Clinton Woods twice, to Julio Gonzales, as well to Green in their initial bout in 2003.  However, DeLisle does hold a victory over Green in the amateurs so he views the ledger as 1-1. For Green, 21-3,  it will be a return after a three-month layoff, time he has spent surfing the waves in the shallow reefs of Fiji, a dangerous recreation.

Green has struggled with health and diet problems since his previous fight, a loss to Anthony Mundine in May, but he is enthusiastic about stepping back into the ring. "I'm very, very positive and very excited about my future in this sport," he said. "Between myself and my coach and my strength and conditioning team, we've sat down and discussed what the future is and I'm very, very positive and very excited about my future in this sport. I believe that my aim of retiring as world champion is still a very viable option for me to achieve. I never ever once personally considered retirement. It wasn't an option in my eyes; it just seems everyone else had their opinion."

The bout will be sequel to the Western Warfare events that Green’s promotional company – Green Machine Promotions – has staged previously. The Green vs. DeLisle II clash will be for a regional light heavyweight title. Green has spent most of his career as a super middleweight, but did fight a couple of minor title bouts at 175 earlier in his career.
