Goossen stages Kirk Johnson-Yanqui Diaz June 9

Press Release: The next Goossen Tutor event will be held on Thursday, June 9 at the Pechanga Resort & Casino in Temecula, California.  Featured on this card, which will be telecast on FSN's hit show ‘ Best Damn Sports Show Period’ will be a significant heavyweight clash between 2000 British Olympic Gold Medalist Audley Harrison and veteran Robert Davis, as well as an intriguing matchup between former heavyweight title challenger Kirk Johnson and Cuban bomber Yanqui Diaz.   Johnson's last major bout was a disappointing blowout loss to Vitali Klitschko, but he is still rated #17 in the Boxingtalk ratings. Diaz appears at #29 under his given name, Yamplier Azcuy. In other news, Goossen Tutor's Robert Guerrero will receive an award from the NABF as the sanctioning body's fighter of the year.

PRESS RELEASE  – It will be a big weekend for Goossen Tutor Promotions and their star featherweight contender Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero on May 21-22, when Guerrero receives the NABF ‘Fighter of The Year’ award for 2004 at the annual NABF convention in Reno, Nevada.

But the accolades don’t stop there, as Dan Goossen will receive the NABF’s award for "Promoter of the Year," and Tom Brown is honored as "Matchmaker of the Year." Guerrero, 22, has grown by leaps and bounds since his pro debut in 2001 and is touted by boxing pundits as a future world champion.  In 2004, the native of Gilroy, California, romped over highly regarded foes Juan Polo Perez, Enrique Sanchez, and Cesar Figueroa, with the fourth round knockout of Figueroa on December 9 earning him the NABF featherweight crown.  Guerrero defended his title for the first time on April 1, 2005, with a 12th round stoppage of Adrian Valdez and is expected to be back in the ring sometime this summer.

"I'm very pleased with this achievement bestowed upon Robert,” said Dan Goossen.  “He's put in many years of hard work and I feel his future has stardom written all over it."

Founded in 2002 by Dan Goossen and construction magnate Ronald Tutor, Goossen Tutor Promotions has quickly established itself as one of the fight game’s premier promotional companies.  Home to an eclectic mix of world champions, solid contenders, and rising superstars, Goossen Tutor’s roster includes (in addition to Guerrero) light heavyweight king Glen Johnson, heavyweight star James Toney, junior lightweight IBF world champion Robbie Peden, WBO junior featherweight world champion Joan Guzman, former world champions Wayne McCullough, Lakva Sim, top contenders Sam Soliman, Julio Gonzalez, and Lovemore Ndou and the sole 2004 US Olympic Gold Medalist Andre Ward

"The company only works with the people that are side by side with you,” said Goossen. “Tom (Brown), Craig (Goossen), Irma (Moreno), Rachel (Charles), Mary (Gadbois), Gabriel (Ruelas) to name just a few.”

"As for Tom Brown,” continues Goossen, “I've been saying for anyone that wants to listen, he is the best matchmaker in the business today, especially with developing young fighters.  He knows how to satisfy the fans, networks and arenas by giving them a competitive bout while keeping in mind the importance of the fighter’s further development toward the big time.  Those are very thin lines that only the best can walk."
