But rival promoter says he has a deal with Bowe
According to a rival promoter, Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor is planning to match former heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe against Billy Zumbrun on April 7, 2005 with Fox Sports televising as part of the Best Damn Sports Show Period. However, Goossen will be risking legal action because promoter Ed Mendy of Louisiana told Boxingtalk that Bowe has already signed a contract to appear on March 25, 2005 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Zumbrun, a Utah native, was also supposed to appear on Mendy's show, but not against Bowe. "I've heard through the grapevine that Bowe is not going to show up in Utah, but I've got a signed contract," said an upset Mendy on Monday night. "Then Zumbrun called me. He was almost crying but he told me Goossen offered him a fight against Bowe. Its like they intentionally went out of their way to take two guys off my show," Mendy continued. Losing both Bowe and Zumbrum would be a double whammy for Mendy since Bowe is by far the biggest name on the card and Zumbrun is the local attraction. Tickets have already gone on sale for Mendy's show, which will be held at the Delta Center, home of the NBA Utah Jazz.
