Much like the screen depiction of Paul Newman's character 'Fast Eddie' Felson in the movie 'The Hustler,' 'Fast Eddie' Chambers is an up-and-coming undefeated heavyweight contender ready to take on any heavyweight champion in a single high-stakes fight, which is why Goossen Tutor Promotions announced today that they have signed the world rated heavyweight to a multi-year promotional agreement.
The promotional agreement was done in conjunction with Score America, LLC, and its principal Rob Murray, Jr., who promoted many of Chambers' previous bouts.
Known as 'Fast Eddie' for his lightning fast punching prowess in the ring, the 24-year-old Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native has won all 27 of his professional fights, including 15 by knockout. Of those 27 victories, 17 of them have come at the legendary Blue Horizon Arena in Philadelphia, where Chambers has become an extremely popular attraction.
Score America was formed in 2000 and began promoting fights at the famous Blue Horizon, while also focusing on other aspects of amateur and professional sports such as basketball sports camps, clinics and special events.
'I am extremely excited about taking my experience of working with world class talent and partnering with the best promotional company in the world, Goossen Tutor Promotions,' Murray, Jr. exclaimed. 'Together we will guide Eddie to the top, and I firmly believe he is the best heavyweight in the World today.'
His father, Rob, Sr., collaborates with him providing many years of boxing managerial experience. Among his many accomplishments in professional boxing were managing the career of Steve Little when he upset Michael Nunn to win the WBA Middleweight title in 1994 and as part of the original management team of legendary champion Bernard Hopkins. Currently, Rob Sr. serves as President of Boxing Operations for the Blue Horizon and as manager of Eddie Chambers.
'I know working with a promoter with a great reputation like Dan Goossen, who has promoted the likes of Mike Tyson, James Toney and Floyd Mayweather, will accelerate and elevate our plans and harvest some of the untapped talent boxing in small gyms or standing on the street corners of urban America,' Murray Sr. explained.
'We felt this deal gave us the opportunity to show we were willing to work together with a world class promoter in Dan. I believe the sport would benefit if promoters tried working together. We have no problem giving credit for what other promoters are doing. Part of our goal is to demonstrate the type of camaraderie and professionalism that we possess and bringing together premier athletes from all over the country, which will then help our great sport of boxing.'
'Having seen what Goossen Tutor has done for so many fighters, I see signing with them as an opportunity of a lifetime for Eddie,' observed Eddie's father/trainer, Eddie W. 'It enables us to get with a top promoter who is not only honorable, but also has the expertise to take Eddie to the title. That's what every young fighter is looking for, non-stop effort, ability, and honesty from a promoter. Now the steps necessary to become a world champion are there for the taking. All we have to do is perform; Mr. Goossen will do the rest.'
'Fast Eddie' had met Goossen before and was familiar with much of the world-class heavyweights and other talent his company promotes.
'I know that Goossen Tutor has a great stable of heavyweights from James Toney to the young Chris Arreola,' acknowledged Chambers, who stopped highly-regarded Domonic Jenkins in five rounds on a Goossen Tutor promotion in Reno last August. 'I can't wait to show my abilities as one of the next crop of young heavyweights fighting my way to the title.'
'Boxing is a strong and healthy industry, and it's deals like this that illustrate the good and positive side of the sport,' said Goossen, referring to the business venture with the Murrays and Chambers.
'Having known Rob Sr. for many, many years, I'm very familiar with his impeccable reputation. Seeing his son grow into a successful businessman, it was a perfect fit for us, especially with their abilities on the East Coast.
'In starting this new association with the addition of Eddie Chambers,' Goossen continued, 'we have added one of the brightest young prospects in the heavyweight division to our already outstanding roster of young heavyweight championship contenders and talented athletes. We see a huge upside in Eddie and we will work very hard to help him realize his dream of becoming Heavyweight Champion of the World.'ac
Hustling toward the World title, the fans will call him "Fast Eddie."
