In what was hopefully the final fight of his extraordinary career, Arturo Gatti was batter for seven consecutive rounds by former Contender Star Alfonso Gomez. After a barrage of power shots sent him reeling into the ropes, a straight right hand sent Gatti crashing to the canvas. New Jersey State Atheltic Commissioner Larry Hazzard entered the ring and appropriately interrupted Randy Neumann's count. Official time of stoppage was 2:12. Few would have complained had it been stopped sooner.
