Golden CEO: Wright turned down $6M guaranteed and PPV upside for a November 12 De La Hoya fight!

OSCAR DE LA HOYA RETURNS MAY 6, 2006

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer was rather upset that Winky Wright told Boxingtalk.com he "ain't never turn down no big money for a fight with Oscar De La Hoya." According to Schaefer, Wright "turned down a $6M guarantee plus $6.00 per PPV buy for every home over 600,000." It should be noted that Shane Mosley never received more than a $4.5M guarantee to fight De La Hoya. Wright turning this fight down makes as much sense as Felix Trinidad's decision to fight him. Schaefer continued, "Oscar said he would fight and he was ready to fight Winky Wright November 12. Oscar wanted us to go and get it done. Bob Arum, who has first and last on Oscar's next fight made that offer to Wright's representatives (Gary Shaw and Jim Wilkes) and they turned it down. As a result, Oscar decided to sit out the rest of the year, and now he'll be returning on May 6, 2006 which has traditionally been his date." Wright was unavailable for immediate comment.
