Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer informed Boxingtalk, "It takes a lot of nerve for Gary Shaw to say we're stringing along HBO when he isn't aware of the facts. The fact of the matter is, Oscar De La Hoya has already made an offer to Bob Arum to buy out his option for Oscar's next fight. Believe me, I can assure you if Oscar De La Hoya did not intend on fighting any longer, do you think he would care about buying Arum out?," rhetorically asked the Golden CEO. "If Gary Shaw thinks we're playing games he should have called our bluff and accepted the $6M plus upside. If they would have accepted the offer, guess what? They would be fighting Oscar De La Hoya on November 12. As for May 6, 2006 we're more than capable of securing Oscar's opponents and we will do so when the time is right, not ten months away from his fight."
