Golden Boy Promotions To Restructure Non Televised Shows!

Press Release: Los Angeles, January 3, 2005. Three years after its formation, Golden Boy Promotions announced today a restructuring with includes the formation of a separate entity, Roy Englebrecht Promotions. The new company will be majority controlled by Roy Englebrecht, while Golden Boy Promotions will retain a significant equity stake. Roy Englebrecht Promotions will be located in Newport Beach, California, and be headed by longtime boxing promoter Roy Englebrecht. Englebrecht will relinquish his position as Chief Operating Officer of Golden Boy Promotions to focus on building this new venue.

Said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions; “Roy is a terrific guy and experienced executive. This move will allow him to eliminate his almost 31/2 hour daily office commute and focus more on the boxing business. Roy Englebrecht Promotions will be a farming system for Golden Boy Promotions where we can scout and develop young talent. Roy will take over the non-televised shows of Golden Boy Promotions and optimize their potential, including the most popular boxing series in the sport, The Battle In Ballroom at the Irvine Marriott.  This move will allow Golden Boy Promotions to focus more time on its televised shows, which currently include 12 Telefutura Solo Boxeo shows, 12 HBO Latino shows, as well as several HBO and HBO PPV events. I look forward to continuing my relationship with Roy in his new capacity.”

“Golden Boy Promotions is a great company and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of its birth. This new structure will now allow me to work a lot closer to my home in Newport Beach and center on developing young fighters for Golden Boy Promotions. It allows me as well to continue to work very closely with Eric Gomez and Raul Jaimes, both of whom have grown into solid executives over the past three years, and to continue my relationship with the best CEO I know in Richard Schaefer,” said Englebrecht.

Added Oscar De La Hoya; “I wish Roy the very best and know that he will once again succeed with Roy Englebrecht Promotions. All of us are looking forward to continue working with Roy. I want to thank Roy for all his help and support over the past three years. It is good to know that he will continue to be part of our team.”
