Golden Boy Promotions Brining International Flavor!

PRESS RELEASE: As one of Hollywood’s hottest night spots, The Avalon is the place to be seen for those wishing to experience a night to remember.  But on Thursday, April 21, The Avalon is about to get even hotter as four rising stars look to give fight fans a night to remember when they battle it out against each other in the April edition of HBO Latino’s hit series “Oscar De La Hoya Presents Boxeo De Oro”.

In the main event, the stakes are high when Guadalajara’s Arturo Morua clashes with Korean bomber Jung-Bum Kim in a ten round junior welterweight bout.

And in the televised co-feature, unbeaten British sensation Carl Froch makes his US debut in a super middleweight ten rounder against Henry Porras.

These exciting bouts, which are part of a four bout card presented by Golden Boy Promotions, will air live on HBO Latino beginning at 10pm ET.

Doors open at 5:00pm and the first bell rings at 5:30pm.

Rugged warrior Arturo Morua (21-6-1, 13 KOs) has never turned down a challenge during his nine year career, and with big wins in 2004 and 2005 over high-quality opposition, this strategy is paying off.  Currently ranked 12th in the world by the WBC, 14th by the WBA, and 15th by the WBO, Morua has won three straight bouts, beating world-class foes Omar Weis, Carlos Maussa, and James Crayton.  A win over Kim on April 21 may just put him in a title bout before the end of 2005.

Taegu, Korea’s Jung-Bum Kim may be unknown to most US fight fans, but with a stellar 23-2-1 (18 KOs) record, punching power and a relentless style, there is no question that after April 21 Kim will become a favorite on these shores.  Holder of the Korean and OPBF junior welterweight titles, Kim is ranked fourth in the world by the WBC and IBF, and seventh by the WBA.  He is coming off an impressive second round knockout of Masakazu Satake in October of 2004.

Carl Froch may only have 14 fights to his credit (all victories, with 11 knockouts), but he has made quite an impression on the UK boxing scene in his three year career, having already won British and Commonwealth super middleweight titles, and earning praise by many as the hottest prospect in world boxing.  A native of Nottingham, England, the 27-year-old Froch showed that he can handle a 12 round battle when he decisioned Charles Adamu last March, but he also likes to take care of business early, as evidenced by his four first round knockouts, including a 130 second destruction of Damon Hague last September.

A native of Costa Rica, hard-hitting Henry Porras (29-4-1, 21 KOs) looks to spoil Froch’s US debut on April 21.  The WBA Fedelatin and WBO Latino champion at 168-pounds, Porras has been a true road warrior during his seven-year career, fighting top competition in Canada, Denmark, Germany, and the United States.  Porras has already been busy in 2005, winning both of his fights by knockout.

Undercard bouts featuring featherweight Jose Gonzalez (10-2, 4 KOs) and light weight Lionel Madrigal (3-1) against to be announced opponents round out this high-energy fight card.
