Godfrey-Batchelder on for September 15

Press Release: On September 15, 2006 cruiserweight prospects Matt “Too Smooth” Godfrey (12-0, 7 KOs) and Danny Batchelder (24-2-1, 11 KOs) will headline a Classic Sports & Entertainment, Inc. promoted card in Hartford, Connecticut. Godfrey, 25, is coming off a first-round knockout of previously unbeaten Shaun George (11-0-2) on ESPN Wednesday Night Fights (May 10) and is rated in the top twenty by the WBA and WBC. Batchelder, 29, upset former IBF cruiserweight champion “King” Arthur Williams in 2005. His last outing was a step up to heavyweight that resulted in a decision loss by to the bigger and stronger Brian Minto (24-1). Batchelder is also rated top twenty by the WBC. Godfrey-Bathcelder is scheduled for twelve rounds. The undercard will feature the return of Hartford hero Israel “Pito” Cardona (35-6, 27 KOs), former regional light welterweight champion. Cardona, who hasn’t fought in his Hartford hometown in 10 years, started his comeback bid March 17 after being inactive for more than four years with a first-round TKO of Bobby McAndrews. “Pito” has defeated, among the more notables, Ivan Robinson, Golden Johnson, Jeff Mayweather and Sam Girard.
