Glen Johnson TKO's Hugo Pineda

Chad Dawson vs. Glen Johnson is a Done Deal for April 12th

The Jamaican Native Glen “The Road Warrior” Johnson entered the ring to Jimmy Cliff’s “The Harder They Come.” Johnson did not stop coming forward as the game Pineda tried to counter.  The one time featherweight and career welterweight Pineda was simply outgunned.  The former 175lb champion and fighter of the year, Glen Johnson dropped Pineda in the 7th round with a series of hooks to the head, with a delayed reaction Pineda fell to the canvas.  Although Pineda was still throwing punches when the fight was stopped in the 8th, he was simply being battered.  The stoppage was appropriate and the fight was an entertaining slugfest.  “The Road Warrior” landed blistering body shots at will and they appeared to hurt Pineda as he continually grimaced in pain.  Glen Johnson will now face WBC Lightheavyweight Champion Chad Dawson on April 12th.  No location has been solidified as of yet.

Witherspoon Decisions Releford

Chazz Witherspoon’s undefeated record was put to the test at Bally’s Grand Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey on Saturday night. Witherspoon won a unanimous decision over Kendrick Releford of Ft. Worth, Texas, 78-74,78-75,78-74.  Both fighters exchanged heavy punches for most of the early part of the fight with Witherspoon taking over in the later rounds. Releford was noticeably breathing with his mouth open and appeared to be out of gas late in the fight.  Witherspoon, cousin of former heavyweight champion of the world Tim Witherspoon, improves to 21-0, 14 KOs while Releford drops to 15-10-2, 6 KOs.
