Glen Johnson: "I believe Roy...based on his skills and talent, that he will beat Tarver!"

Saying that 2005 has been an eventful year for Glen Johnson, is about as much of an understatement as saying that Mr. T likes gold necklaces.  Even by taking on Roy Jones Jr. and fighting Tarver twice, the former IBF light heavyweight champion still is not done with this year.  In fact, he sees more big fights happening before we all start singing Auld Lang Syne.  BoxingTalk recently caught up with Johnson after one of his training sessions to get his thoughts on fighting George Khalid Jones next week, what this fight means for his career, and why he is rooting Roy to beat Tarver in their rubber match.

BoxingTalk:  Are you all ready for September 30th in your fight against George Jones?

Glen Johnson: I am ready and able, and I’m going to make this an exciting fight.  I’m going to come out and make a splash so that people will make a request for me to fight the winner of Tarver-Jones III.  I’m the next guy out there for them to fight, and I want to be impressive so that my name will keep ringing in their ears

BoxingTalk: How has this training camp compared to your preparation for your title fights against Roy Jones Jr. and Antonio Tarver?

Glen Johnson:  Training for Roy has surpassed any other training camp I have had, but this camp has been better than when I trained for both Tarver fights.  I feel better and I’m ready to make a statement

BoxingTalk: What statement are you wanting to make on September 30th?

Glen Johnson:  I want to make a statement of who I am.  Those guys (Roy Jones and Tarver) still have to recognize me as the guy in this weight class who is a strong force to be reckoned with.

BoxingTalk:  Who will you be rooting for in Tarver-Jones III?

Glen Johnson:  It really doesn’t matter to me which one wins.  I’ll fight either one of them.  I believe Roy will bring me more money, and I also think, based on his skills and talent, that he will beat Tarver.  However, I know that I’ll beat them both.

BoxingTalk: Do you think you can do anything bigger in the light heavyweight division than what you did this past year against Jones and Tarver?

Glen Johnson:  Definitely.  I want to close off this year with two more fights.  I’m ready to fight them again as soon as possible after their fight.  I don’t know how they feel about it, but I’m here and I’m ready now.

BoxingTalk:  What is your game plan for fighting George Jones next week?

Glen Johnson:  I’m ready to fight as long as it lasts, but I’m not expecting to go the whole  fight.

BoxingTalk:  Is it hard to get motivated for this fight, when your past three fights have been against the top fighters in your division?

Glen Johnson:  No, it’s not hard because without this fight I don’t get back to where I was.  So that is my motivation.  I want to get back to the elite level where I was, and that is my motivation.  Getting motivated has been quite easy for me.

BoxingTalk:  What would you like to say to your fans who will be coming to watch your fight against George Jones?

Glen Johnson:  Tune in because it will be an exciting fight.  Thanks to your support I ‘m here, and I will make sure you get an exciting fight.

BoxingTalk thanks Mr. Johnson for taking the time to speak with us.  We wish him continued success both in and out of the ring.
