Gilbert stops Lange!

Joey Gilbert TKO3 Jimmy Lange... In a battle between former stars of The Contender reality show, Joey Gilbert captured a regional middleweight title in impressive fashion, defeating Jimmy Lange by technical knockout in the third round. The bout was a rematch from season one of the show, also won by Gilbert. Hometown favorite Lange entered the Virginia arena to raucous cheers and a huge spectacle of music and glitz. He tried to set the tone early using his superior height and reach to establish his jab but Gilbert proved physically stronger and pressed Lange up against the ropes, hurting him badly late in the first round and scoring a knockdown. Gilbert looked to finish the fight as the round ended, landing a dozen power shots before Lange staggered to his corner. The end would come via referee stoppage in the third when Gilbert again hurt Lange and then flurried unanswered power punches to his foe laying against the ropes.

Daniel Attah W8 Isidro Granados... Daniel Attah came back from a long layoff to gain a majority decision victory in a boring, sloppy fight which had the crowd yawning and booing. Attah was a late substitute for local favorite Lamont Pearson, who injured his back while shoveling snow. The eight-round matchup of southpaw Attah and orthodox stance Granados proved to be a bad stylistic combination resulting in numerous lead foot contacts, tripping, falling, and stumbling. This combined with wild punching, poor defense, and a near suplex.  The roundcard girls received the only cheers, with loud boos, lots of yawns and "stop the fight" saved for the boxers. Attah proved to be the craftier veteran, able to get inside and land slightly more effectively than Granados. The scores were a puzzling 80-72, and much more reasonable 76-76 and 76-75. Other results... Tonya Gallegos W4 Jamie Johnson... 40-36, 39-37, & 39-37... Derek Ennis TKO2 Roland Cummings... Very impressive performance by the Philly fighter, Ennis, who wins via TKO at 1:33 of the second round... Andre Nichols W4 Nicholas Shaheen... A two-time Virginia state amateur champion, southpaw Nichols wins his pro debut after starting strong and then holding on for the majority decision.... Jarell Mason-Jackson TKO6 Carlos Jones
