Mother Ida and Brother Fabrizio Suing Gatti Widow & Former Murder Suspect
Shortly after Gatti's body was reported by Amanda Rodriguez to be lying on the floor of their Brazilian resort hotel room, Amanda Rodriguez was taken into custody on suspicion of murdering her husband and former 2 time boxing champion Arturo “Thunder” Gatti. Police were suspicious as the couple fought violently and publicly the night before with a cab driver claiming to be assaulted by the former champion. Police found holes in the widow’s story but weeks later, Amanda Rodriguez was cleared of all charges and the death was deemed a suicide by Brazilian authorities. The Gatti family civil suit is being filed in Montreal Canada by mother Ida and brother Fabrizio. According to the Toronto Sun, Judge Paul Chaput asked the Gatti Family lawyer Carmine Mercadante to reframe his approach to the case if they were going to attempt to directly implicate Rodriguez in the murder. Rodriguez, a former stripper and mother of Arturo Gatti’s son, had a short marriage with the former people’s champion which was openly volatile and rocky to say the least.
