Gassiev out six months following shoulder surgery

Saucedo in camp training for WBO title fight vs Hooker

World class trainer Abel Sanchez confirmed to Boxingtalk that former WBA and IBF cruiserweight champion Murat Gassiev recently underwent multiple surgeries "Gassiev had an operation on his shoulder, nose and hand. He was injured prior to the main event of the tournament. He's had his surgery it went well and after five or six months of rehab he's going to be back in the gym. We would have loved to be a part of the second season of the WBSS tournament, but his health is more important."

Sanchez also informed Boxingtalk that junior welterweight Alex Saucedo, a budding star out of Oklahoma, has officially began training for his first world title challenge against WBO champion Maurice Hooker. "Saucedo's in camp now and he's got a certain style all of his own. He's not like anybody I have in the gym. He likes to fight and he wants to get in there and fight. Maurice Hooker is a difficult guy to fight, I've had him in the gym before sparring with Denis Shafikov so we're going to have to be ready. Saucedo is going to be in a dog fight and he's always in a dog fight, but he seems to be coming out on top everytime. We've got a difficult fight in front of us, but that's the way all championship fights should be."
