Lightweight Kaipo Gallegos (8-0-1, 6 KOs) is deep in training for one of the biggest challenges of his young career. Gallegos will square off against fellow unbeaten Pedro Castaneda Castro (8-0-1, 5 KOs) of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, on Friday, May 9th at MVP Promotions' “Most Valuable Prospects 12” event, taking place at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. All the action will be televised live on DAZN. Co-promoted by Boxlab Promotions and Shuan Boxing, Gallegos has been putting in intense work in Las Vegas under the guidance of his father and head trainer, Jayson Gallegos. As the fight date approaches, Kaipo shared insight into his focused training camp, his mindset heading into battle, and what a victory on May 9th would mean for his career.
On training camp in Las Vegas: "This camp has been one of the best we've had. Training with my dad is always special. He knows me better than anyone else — not just as a fighter, but as a person. We've been drilling fundamentals, tightening up my defense, and adding new strategies to my offense. Every day in the gym, we push each other. The energy has been different this camp because we know what's at stake. We’re fighting someone who’s undefeated just like me, and I’m preparing to show that I'm on a different level."
On facing Pedro Castaneda Castro: "Castro is a good fighter — strong, tough, and confident, just like you would expect from a Mexican warrior who’s never tasted defeat. I respect what he brings to the table, but I believe my skills, my IQ, and my preparation are going to be the difference. He's coming to win, and so am I. It’s going to be a war, but I plan on showing why I'm one of the best young lightweights in the world right now."
On what a win would mean for his career: "Winning this fight is everything. This isn’t just about staying undefeated — it’s about making sending a message to the entire lightweight division. It’s about proving that I'm ready for bigger opportunities and bigger names. Beating someone like Castro, who's a real threat, shows everyone that I'm serious. It’s a major step toward becoming a world ranked contender. After May 9, people are going to know the name Kaipo Gallegos on a different level in a positive way.”
"Kaipo Gallegos is one of the brightest young stars in the lightweight division," said Amaury Piedra, President of Boxlab Promotions. “He’s got the full package — skills, power, intelligence, and the work ethic to match. This upcoming fight with Pedro Castaneda Castro is exactly the kind of test he needs at this stage of his career. Two undefeated fighters meeting at this point shows Kaipo’s mentality. He's not looking for easy fights…he’s looking to challenge himself and rise to the occasion. We believe Kaipo has all the tools to become a world champion, and May 9th is going to be another major step on that journey."
