Froch looking to bounce back from surgery

Press Release: In his next title defense against Tony Dodson, British Super middleweight champ Carl Froch is looking to come back strong from injuries suffered when he stopped Brian Magee with an uppercut in the eleventh round in May. That fight saw “The Cobra” fracture a metatarsal on his right hand in the second. He reports that surgery has seen him return to full fitness and he’ll be ready for the November 24, 2006 fight in Nottingham, England. “The bone was pinned in a couple of places to allow it to heal, but they came out a couple of months ago and I am throwing punches normally now,” Froch explained. “The only problem I get is a slight ache after training, but that won’t hold me back from throwing my devastating uppercut and knockout blows. Because of the nature of the injury, it is highly unlikely to re-occur. It was just because of the gloves I had to wear. I won’t wear them ever again. I would pull out of a fight rather than wear them.” Victory for Froch will see him fulfil a lifetime ambition of retaining the Lonsdale belt outright, an honor that comes after three defenses. “Realistically, I think I am about three or four fights away from getting my world title shot. I will sit down with [promoter] Mick Hennessy after this fight and we will probably target the European first, but if a world title opportunity came up I would jump at it. I am ready.”
