Press Release: According to promoter Joe DeGuardia, the New York State Athletic Commission overruled Raul Frank’s seventh round TKO win over Terrance “Heat” Cauthen by declaring the fight a no-decision. The bout took place last Thursday January 25th, at the Paradise Theater in the Bronx. After a meeting with representatives of Team Cauthen, Team Frank and Star Boxing CEO Joe DeGuardia regarding the bout, the NYSAC ruled that the bout ended as a result of an unintentional headbutt, and not a punch. Cauthen (32-3-1), who was making his first defense of his title, was ahead on all scorecards (60-55) when Frank bounced off the ropes, catching Cauthen squarely on the chin with his head virtually knocking him out on his feet. Referee Ricky Gonzalez stopped the fight with one second remaining in the seventh round. After team Cauthen immediately protested and the NYSAC reviewed the television replay, a hearing was setup for today at the offices of the NYSAC. Star Boxing CEO Joe DeGuardia was quoted as saying “The decision made today by the NYSAC is the first step in ensuring a just result in the fight. I anticipate that after a full hearing on the matter the NYSAC will declare Terrance Cauthen a technical decision winner as the rules seem to require going to the scorecards after an unintentional head-butt.” In light of the NYSAC ruling, Terence Cauthen retains the USBA Jr. Middleweight Championship.
