Former WBC Jr Flyweight Champion Choi Yo-Sam in Coma

After Winning a Unanimous Decision Against Heri Amol, Choi Collapsed in the Locker Room

South Korean boxer and former WBC Flyweight Champion Choi Yo-Sam fell unconscious in the locker after winning a unanimous decision against Heri Amol in Seoul Korea last night.  Choi had a comfortable lead going into the 12th round but suffered a knockdown at the hands of Amol which could have possibly led to the post fight collapse.  Amol landed a series of vicious left and right hooks just 5 seconds before the end of the fight causing the knockdown.  Like a champion, Choi rose to his feet and was declared the winner.  Choi underwent immediate brain surgery at the Soonchunhyang University Hospital of Seoul Korea and is currently in a medically induced coma.  Ironically, it is only a month after the 25 year anniversary of the death of South Korean boxer Kim Dik-Koo following a brawl with Ray Mancini in 1982.  Choi won the WBC Light Flyweight Title from Saman Sorjaturong in 1999 but lost the title to the legendary Jorge Arce in 2002.  Source: Independent South Africa and the Malaysia Star Â
